Who uses "Native American Flutes"?

My husband and I were discussing this the other day and neither of us know who uses them. We've seen Native American Flute CDs for sale, but never known a Native that played one. I've also seen questions on here that pertain to Native Flutes, but they are asked by nons.

I've heard of some Plains tribes that used them (young men wooing the ladies with an irresistible tune) ...and the flute is prevalent in the SW also...of course, Native flutes looked different in different parts of the country, and they weren't universal by any means. I would doubt they had a standard scale/keyed the same. I think the "Native American flute" you find nowadays is along the lines of the romantic, IDEALIZED "Native" tradition. (Not to take away Carlos Nakai and a few others that have studied or delved into this tradition deeper than I have...just my observation.)

I do notice that most of them are made by non-Natives...
